Easter Egg Wall Hanging Tutorial

Hello Timeless Treasures friends, Nicole from Modern Handcraft here today to share a fun and easy Easter project that you can use year after year to decorate your home.

I have always associated pastels with Spring and the Easter holiday, so when the Pearle line from Timeless Treasures was released I immediately wanted to create an Easter project. The line has a wide range of pastel colors and the shimmery pearle glow on the fabric is truly beautiful in person. The Easter Egg Wall Hanging can also be used as a table runner, or the same method can be switched to a larger quilt or a decorative pillow!

Pearle Fabrics

Materials needed:

  • Sewing machine and sewing notions (scissors, rotary cutter, white thread, pins, basting pins or basting spray, marking pen/pencil)
  • Heat N Bond lite
  • Quilt batting measuring 12″ x 44″
  • Easter Egg Pattern PDF

Fabric: WOF (width of fabric) FQ (fat quarter)

Step 1:

  • Print out the Easter Egg Pattern PDF, or you can free hand draw an egg measuring 10″ tall x 7″ wide. Cut out the egg shape. This will be your template.
  • Trace the egg pattern 4 times onto the paper side of your Heat N Bond closely together, keeping within the size of your White Soho fabric FQ.
  • Following the package directions, iron your Heat N Bond onto your White Soho Fabric FQ.

  • Once cool, cut the egg shapes out along your drawn line. You will now have 4 eggs. Keep the paper backing on as you will remove this later when it is time to attach the eggs to your backing.

Step 2:

  • Time to decorate your eggs! Iron the Heat N Bond onto your Pearle fabric. Once cool you can now draw patterns and shapes onto the paper backing of your bonded fabric and cut them out.

  • Once your shapes are cut, play around with different layouts. Once you have the design you like, you can peel off the paper backing for your egg decorations and iron to the front of your egg shapes (keeping the paper backing on your eggs).

  • You now have 4 very festive Easter Eggs!

Step 3:

  • Now you will take one of your 12″ x 44″ pieces of backing fabric to your iron and position your decorated eggs along the length. When you are happy with your layout, peel off the paper backing and iron to the front of your backing. You can now make a “quilt sandwich” and layer your backing fabric – quilt batting – and front together and baste (I use safety pins – use your favorite method).

  • Back at your machine using a small zig-zag stitch, sew around the perimeter of each Easter egg. This will quilt all of your layers together. The Heat N Bond is strong enough for a wall hanging to keep in tact without the need to stitch around each decoration. If you plan on making a pillow I would recommend using a Heat N Bond No Sew product for a stronger hold.

Step 4:

  • For your binding fabric I used about 117″ of fabric cut 2.5″ wide. You can also use a pre-made binding. This is about 3 – 2.5″ WOF cuts from a yard of fabric.

  • Since I am using this as a wall hanging I made two side pockets on the upper back side. To make these, take 2 – 5″ squares of fabric and iron in half diagonally. Pin in place and stitch around the corners. Do this before finishing your binding. To hang, I cut a 1″ strip of cardboard that matched the width of the hanging – slide into place.

  • Finish up your binding and you are all done!
